The Benedictine Sister’s Convent is a ground-up assisted- living style building completed by Massaro Design-Build and includes 40 individual units, a cafeteria, offices, and a chapel. As part of the project team, I focused on the design and detailing of the chapel. In the chapel, a vaulted wood ceiling and beam structure were designed to bring a sense of grandeur and warmth to the space. The wood detailing is carried throughout the chapel in the form of wainscoting, chair rail, window and door trim, and light coves. The altar space is defined on three sides by windows that provide ample natural lighting and create a spiritual experience.
